Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 May 2026

This is FishForever’s privacy policy. It describes what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and how you can exercise your rights over it under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Site: FishForever (fishforever.co.uk)

Data controller: FishForever

Contact for privacy matters: privacy@fishforever.co.uk

What we collect

When you comment on an article, we collect the name and email address you provide, and your IP address (used by anti-spam services). Your name is displayed publicly next to your comment. Your email address and IP address are not.

When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address, and the date and source of the signup. We use this to send you the newsletter and, occasionally, related notifications about FishForever content.

When you visit any page on the site, we collect anonymised analytics data via Google Analytics and Google Site Kit. This includes the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are (country/region level), and what type of device and browser you use. This data is not linked to your identity.

When you buy a digital product from us (via Lemon Squeezy), Lemon Squeezy acts as the merchant of record and handles your payment data directly. We receive your email address, the item you purchased, and a summary transaction ID. Lemon Squeezy’s own privacy policy applies to their handling of your card details.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use the following categories of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies — for basic site function, such as remembering that you’ve dismissed the cookie banner. These do not require your consent.
  • Analytics cookies — Google Analytics 4 (via Site Kit). These help us understand which content is useful. We ask your consent before setting these.
  • Advertising cookies — set by our display-ad partner (Ezoic, and later Mediavine Journey) when ads are served. These may be used to personalise the ads you see. We ask your consent before setting these.

You can withdraw or update your cookie choices at any time by using the “Cookie preferences” link in our footer.

Lawful basis under UK GDPR

  • Comments: Article 6(1)(a) — your consent, given when you submit the form.
  • Newsletter: Article 6(1)(a) — your consent, given when you subscribe. You can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email.
  • Analytics with consent: Article 6(1)(a) — your consent.
  • Order processing (digital products): Article 6(1)(b) — necessary for the performance of the contract you enter into by buying the product.
  • Security and fraud prevention: Article 6(1)(f) — our legitimate interest in preventing malicious activity against the site.

Third-party processors

We work with the following third parties who may process your personal data on our behalf:

  • Google (Google Analytics 4, Google Site Kit) — analytics
  • Ezoic / Mediavine (once activated) — advertising
  • MailerLite — email newsletter delivery
  • Lemon Squeezy — digital-product payment processing (merchant of record)
  • Wordfence — site security (blocks malicious IPs)
  • Cloudflare — content delivery and DDoS protection

Each of these has their own privacy policy governing what they do with data. Where relevant, we have data processing agreements in place with them.

How long we keep data

  • Comments: kept for as long as the article is on the site, or until you request deletion.
  • Newsletter subscribers: kept while you remain subscribed, plus a further 12 months for record-keeping. You can request full deletion at any time.
  • Analytics data: anonymised at the point of collection; kept in Google Analytics for 14 months and then automatically deleted.
  • Order records: kept for six years, in line with UK tax record-keeping requirements.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your data (subject to any legal obligations to retain it, e.g. tax records).
  • Restriction — ask us to stop processing your data in certain ways.
  • Portability — ask for a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests, or to direct marketing.
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on your consent, withdraw it at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@fishforever.co.uk with a brief description of your request. We will respond within one month.

If you’re not satisfied with our response, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Details at ico.org.uk or by phone on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for example, when we add a new third-party service. Material changes will be flagged on the site for at least 30 days. The “last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
