Tiger Shovelnose Catfish - Phseudoplatystoma Faciatium

Origin: The Amazon, la plata basin and also east of the Ande's
Maximum Size: In the wild 60 inches in captivity up to 36 inches.
Care: This fish grows very large and so needs a tank of dimensions at least 96"x48"x36", the water should be slightly acidic and soft with the temperature between 22 and 26 degrees celcius.
Feeding: This fish is a carnivore and needs fish flesh, freshwater crabs, shrimps and small mammals.
Breeding: This catfish is an egglayer it is however too big to breed in captivity, but it may be bred in large mud ponds.
Sexing: Unknown
Comments:This shovelnose catfish needs a huge tank and excellent filtration. Two water changes a week are beneficial. It is essential that you don't get one of these fish unless you can accomodate it when fully grown. It has an extreemly large mouth capable of eating smaller tankmates.
